From Stage Fright to the Spotlight: OBA 2026

It is an absolute honor and a moment of immense pride to be recognized as the Achiever of the Year at OBA 2026.
Standing on that stage brought back a flood of memories. Thanks to my stellar academics and deep involvement in co-curricular activities, being on stage at school was a rare occurrence for me. In fact, I think the last time I stood before a school audience was back in 1997/98 as the morning assembly news reader. I still vividly remember the sheer panic of that day; I was supposed to read the news, but the sound simply refused to leave my throat, making it quite possibly the world's first silent news reading!
To go from that paralyzed kid on the assembly stage to standing tall today, having conquered some of the grandest stages since, is a true testament to the legendary upbringing at Sainik School. Studying at Sainik School was a life-changing privilege; it shaped our character, built our resilience, and turned our nervous energy into unwavering confidence.
What began as a casual chat with cadets during OBA 2024 turned into an unstoppable movement to bring hockey back to the OBA Day games, and from that moment on, there was no turning back. From intensity in South Zone preparations and the founding of the Gandhara Hockey Club, to supporting schools across Kerala in promoting the sport and playing those unforgettable matches between Old Boys and the School Team, this journey feels like an absolute dream.
Coordinating all of this from Doha might sound tough, but it was smooth sailing thanks to a group of batchmates who are just as passionate. Things literally fell into place with just a quick phone call, as Manu, Ahmed, Ajith, Cibin, and others hit the ground running to make sure everything was set up perfectly.
As I enjoy this milestone, my heart is filled with profound gratitude for everyone who paved the way. A huge thank you to our legendary teachers, to SRR Sir (SR Ramachandran), our iconic hockey coach who taught us grit and passion, and to my incredible batchmates, hockey teammates, and hockey-loving OBs whose unmatched energy made every moment unforgettable.
This award belongs to all of us. Thank you for the memories, the brotherhood, and the incredible journey that is still unfolding!

You have always been an inspiration, but seeing you up close and watching you make hockey the axis of your life over the past year has been something else. From every social media post to every conversation about hockey, from arranging transportation to ensuring every cadet has sticks and balls—you've lived and breathed this mission. Dear Lineesh, Congratulations on receiving the “Achiever’s Award”—a recognition that is truly well deserved for your outstanding efforts in promoting hockey at your proud alma mater. Your dedication, coupled with the unwavering support of your batchmates, has produced remarkable results. The long distance coordination and the financial support you tirelessly provided are truly commendable. I still remember watching the videos of you playing hockey with your son on your home terrace. Even then, I felt there was a spark within you, waiting to be ignited.It is wonderful to see that spark grow into a flame that has inspired so many. Thank you, dear friend, for all your efforts and commitment.Keep up the excellent work—bash on regardless. May God continue to bless you with good health, strength, and many more achievements.
